How to build topical authority
- Pillar Hub (P1): one broad, authoritative overview of the primary subject.
- Sub-Clusters (C1.1, C1.2…): 3–5 core sub-topics that expand specific pillar sections.
- Micro-Clusters (M1.1a, M1.1b…): 2–3 long-tail articles—how-tos, comparisons, or direct Q&A—under each cluster.
- Answer-first (AEO): the opening section of every URL answers the Direct Core Question in the row.
- Linking: micros point up to their sub-cluster; sub-clusters point up to the pillar; the pillar links down to every cluster.
Recommended workflow
- Generate a starter outline from your niche, or start from a blank worksheet.
- Rewrite titles and keywords until each row owns one distinct intent.
- Confirm parent link targets form closed loops—no orphans.
